Riding for the Love of It!
- Would you like to truly enjoy riding again?
- Have you been feeling pain or tightness when you ride?
- Have you been injured in a fall or other equine related mishap and feeling like you are struggling with anxiety or confidence?
- Do you feel yourself tighten up if your horse starts to 'act up' or 'tense'?
- Does your coach often remind you to 'breathe' and then realize you were holding your breath through a movement?
- Do you often feel like your saddle tips to one side or been told you lean to one side?
- Have you noticed your body getting tighter as you get older?
If you notice any of the above (or more) I can help!
Riding is a passion that draws us in because of our love for horses and the desire to care for them. However, fears, anxieties, emotional upsets, and chronic muscle tension can sometimes hinder our enjoyment of the sport. To help you overcome these challenges, I integrate Somatics, Energy Healing, Centered Riding, and Dressage Principles, allowing you to release anxieties, alleviate tension, and foster a deeper connection with your horse both on the ground and in the saddle.

The Somatic Reflexes in Riders
Recognizing the impact of rider position on the horse is important to enhancing the connection between horse and rider. Somatics addresses many of the key challenges rider's have in their ability to connect with and to follow their horse's movements. It also enhances the rider's understanding of the horse's muscle patterns and how to address imbalances through training and groundwork exercises.

My Riding and Coaching Experience
My riding journey has been quite diverse, but my main focus has always been prioritizing the horse. This commitment led me to work with Chris Irwin, known as 'The Master of Awareness' by Horse Illustrated magazine, for over 15 years. He helped me understand the subtle signs horses send and how our own body language influences them. His lessons formed the foundation for my work with horses, focusing on balance, connection, and building a bond. It's not just about the physical training, it's also about supporting the horse mentally by tuning into their natural movements and being aware of the subtle cues we give.

Next, I incorporated Centered Riding, which equipped me with additional tools to enhance rider body awareness and centering, fostering a deeper bond with the horse.

When I began the Somatics training, it opened my eyes to these connections in a fresh way. I became more attuned to where rider's bodies were blocked or tense, allowing me to assist them in releasing that tension more effectively. It also allowed me to see how these movement patterns also show up in the horse and how to assist the horse in releasing them.

While my competitive experience began with open horse shows (all around events) and Quarter Horse shows, my focus eventually switched to Western Dressage and Dressage. I love the focus of dressage as a means of developing and strengthening a horse as they learn the skills required to move through the levels and the harmony and connection between horse and rider. It is truly a dance.

The highlight of my career was the opportunity to take one of my junior students to the Western Dressage World Show in Oklahoma where she achieved multiple World Championships on a horse that I had raised from 6 months of age and started. I also took my own horse to the World Show where I finished the competition in the Top 5 of the Open Level.

This work has allowed me to travel to Alabama, Costa Rica and throughout Western Canada to teach clinics and lessons. I love teaching combination clinics where I bring in all that I do; Somatics, Energy work, groundwork, and riding and can develop a clinic to meet your needs.
